The Hazel Stamford

“The Hazel” is located at 44 John Street (formerly 523 Canal Street) in the South End neighborhood of Stamford, CT. The Hazel is a 201,639 square foot, 7-story mixed-use project developed by Alpine Residential and Fields Grade Development. The project consists of 183 affordable and market-rate residential units, a 2-story covered parking garage, an upper-level outdoor swimming pool and barbeque terrace, 7,400 square feet of amenity spaces, and approximately 2,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor, including a Community Center that is open to the public to reserve for community functions. The retail space will be occupied by Hudson Table, the premier culinary studio in the NY-Metro area, offering immersive hands-on cooking classes and custom events in its state-of-the-art kitchens.

The design of 44 John Street is a collaboration of Newman Architects, the architect of record, and Wherewithal, the interior designer. Tenants enter the residential building into a warm and modern lobby off of John Street. There are 142 Studio units and 41 one-bedroom units. There are numerous Juliet balconies on each elevation of the building, offering significant private outdoor space for residents. On the first floor, there is a state-of-the-art fitness space that is secure for flexible resident use. The third floor offers various amenities accessible to all residents, including a lounge space, game room, communal kitchen space, outdoor grilling stations, and an outdoor pool. The outdoor third floor amenities are complimented with impressive views of downtown Stamford. Common areas also include building-wide free Wi-Fi, optional onsite covered garage parking, and bike storage.
